Shetland Tourism Association

Shetland Tourism Association (STA) was set up in 2005 to represent the trade in discussions with the new VisitScotland organisation, with Shetland Islands Council (SIC), Shetland Enterprise and other bodies dealing with the industry.

The local arm of VisitScotland, VisitShetland, runs the tourist Information Centres in Lerwick and at Sumburgh Airport. They are responsible for giving helpful information to visitors and making accommodation bookings alongside bookings for other leisure activities.

Promote Shetland is a new body recently set up under the auspices of the Shetland Amenity Trust. It is financed by the Shetland Islands Council, based in the Lerwick Museum and is dealing with the marketing of Shetland to both the domestic and international markets.

The Shetland Tourism Association has no executive authority. It is a trade association - a democratic body which speaks for the tourism industry in the islands. Our membership is growing and as such we are represented on every committee and organisation connected to tourism in these isles.
